Beach Essentials

Kerry and I are beach bound soon!  I thought I would share a few things that I have made for our beach trip! I found both of these ideas on Pinterest. I made these beach bags from window screen!  Who knew that you could sew with window screen?  I surely didn’t.   I followed this tutorial.  Window screen is very inexpensive and pretty easy to sew with.  The sand does not get trapped in your bag so it’s ideal!

I used plexiglass on the bottom of the bag to make it sturdy.  It is covered with waterproof fabric and only sewed down on one side so that you can lift it up to get any sand out!  The pocket is also waterproof.  I made one for myself, Rose and Kerry.  I have enjoyed this bag and look forward to making more.

Since we have rented a house for this trip instead of staying at a resort we will not have access to lounge chairs.  I thought a beach blanket would be nice to have.  I followed this tutorial.  This blanket is so easy to make using things you probably already have!  I used a vintage king size sheet and used paracord instead of shoelaces. (just because I couldn’t find any shoelaces in the house and I had cute neon paracord)

You just need a flat sheet, shoelaces or paracord, and four tent stakes!  It’s that easy.

Cut the cord or laces in 12″ lengths.  I burn the ends of the cord so it won’t fray.  Tie the cord in knots.

Put the cord on the back side of the sheet, fold the corner over it and pin it.

Just sew this in place and continue with the other corners.  You will be ready for the beach in minutes!

I love how the beach blanket turned out!  We recently tested it on our trip to Captiva Island and it worked great!
