My daughter and I made toaster pastries to continue our quest to make all of the recipes in the Homemade Pantry cookbook. This week we made toaster pastries (click for the full recipe). I have made a lot of homemade pie crusts but this recipe is by far the easiest. I will use it from now on. We couldn’t get the dough to roll out like the recipe called for so I think our dough was too thick. They certainly weren’t perfect rectangles either but they tasted great. We will just have to make them again to see if we improve our technique!
We used homemade jelly that a friend gave to us. You only need one tablespoon of jelly per pastry. You will need to put the egg wash on the pastry, crimp the edges with a fork and poke holes in the top.
I think they turned out pretty well. Dust them with powdered sugar if you like.
We also made homemade cheese crackers which is another great recipe from the Homemade Pantry.
