We recently spent a week on Captiva Island. We rented the Cupcake house just two streets over from The Bubble Room so we walked past it daily. The Bubble Room is a very eclectic restaurant that has been listed on The Food Network’s Craziest Restaurants in America list.
It’s one of those places that if you are on Captiva Island you should visit to see what all the hype is about! My husband and I visited The Bubble Room on a previous trip but it was about 15 years ago so I didn’t remember much. Kerry and Russell had never been so we all agreed that we wanted to check it out. We decided to go for lunch since it was less expensive and less crowded.
The restaurant can be a bit of a sensory overload. It is jam packed with eclectic decorations on the walls, on the tabletops, on the ceilings, and everywhere that you can imagine!
The servers are called “bubble scouts” and are dressed similar to Boy Scouts. Our bubble scout was awesome. She was very friendly and bubbly. Imagine that.
We didn’t realize that during lunch the infamous bubble bread and sticky buns are not served so keep that in mind if you are considering lunch or dinner. Also, when ordering your lunch entree it does not come with anything as a side so if you want something in addition you will need to order that separately.
We ordered the Carolina Moons with cheese and an order without cheese. We preferred the ones without the cheese. The portion is huge so there is enough to share!
The Bubble Burger is served on the bubble bread. The guys enjoyed their burgers but didn’t love the bread.
I ordered the Caesar Romano with chicken. It was very good!
My son ordered the Turk Douglas which is a turkey breast sandwich with pepper jack cheese, roasted peppers, spicy mayo, bacon and guava jam. He liked everything but the jam.
Rose ordered the fish sandwich and Kerry had the Napoleon Bonapart.
The food was good but nothing over the top to write home about. We didn’t order dessert after lunch because we were all full and were ready to get back to the beach.
However, a few days later we decided to order dessert. We called to order it so we could walk over and pick it up.
For some reason they do not take orders over the phone for dessert and we had to go place the order in person. It turned out fine but we still couldn’t figure out why they won’t take orders over the phone!
They have a dedicated bubble scout just for desserts and he was also very friendly and efficient! I think we ordered almost every dessert option and took them back to the house so everyone could try them.
You thought I was kidding?! We take dessert very seriously.
There is a Bubble Emporium next door.
The restaurant is beautifully located on Captiva Island just a few blocks from the beach. You can take a nice walk after dinner!
