We recently went to Captiva with Crystal and her family. Russell and I flew into Fort Myers Florida. We rented a car and grocery shopped on the day we arrived.
There are about 7 million Publix stores in between the airport and the bridge to Sanibel. We stopped at the one that everyone recommended online. It is on the left right before you get to the bridge. (20321 Summerlin Road, Ft. Meyers, FL 33908)
Russell and I then headed over to the island. We stopped at Jerry’s. Jerry’s deserves it’s own post so I won’t go into detail about it here. We ate lunch there and found delightful ice-cream – again stay tuned for more on that. I will update this post with a link once it is posted.
On the day we went home we had quite a lot of time to waste/use before our late flight. We found a great outlet mall – which I can’t find online, apparently it used to be under the Tanger umbrella and isn’t anymore. It was at 20350 Summerlin Rd., exit 131 off I-75 Fort Myers, FL 33908. I used it mostly to gather steps on my FitBit and ultimately ended up buying a lot of things at Loft. I really like Loft, and being an outlet it had some great deals. Don’t forget to use Shopkicks while you are at the outlets!
Russell found a great place for us to eat lunch. We went to Bahama Breeze. The food was really good, service was good. We really recommend it.
We started with Firecracker Shrimp – I don’t know who did it first – but we first had Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish Grill and now compare all similar dishes to that one. This was pretty close.
Those plantain crispy things are really yum!
I got the fresh catch of the day – redfish – almost crusted with chimchurri. Wow it was so good, I forgot to snap a pic! I actually had “redfish” a few times on this trip and it was always really good – I have never heard of it before and was assured it was not the same as red snapper.
I have no recollection or photo evidence of what Russell got – but I know he liked it! From glancing at the menu, I think it was the jerk chicken pasta.
We found some more shopping areas to walk around. We even found a World Market! I love World Market. I had Russell come in and meet me to pick a snack for the plane. You know that they have some cool snacks.
There was a Target and a Petco and Petco had PUPPIES!!!
All in all – Fort Myers wasn’t a terrible place to find yourself with 4+ hours to waste. The obvious choice would have been to go to the beach, but we had all of our luggage etc and knew we wouldn’t have anywhere to change…and that flying home to Maryland we were going to lose 40 degrees!!!
