GPSmyCity City Walks App Review + Giveaway

City Walks App Review + Giveaway

The kids and I went to Birmingham, Alabama for a car show this weekend.  After all, what’s a weekend without a car show?  While my son was at the show my daughter and I toured Birmingham.  The last time I was in Birmingham was about six years ago when I ran a marathon there.  Truth be told, I ran a bit, walked some, waddled more than I wanted and perhaps there may have been some crawling. Even though I covered 26.2 miles (don’t leave out the .2) of the city I don’t recall much of it.  I was staring at the pavement or staring at all of the people passing me for nearly six hours.  It was nice to go back and tour at a leisurely rate, eat lunch, and test out the local bakery! That’s more like it!

My friends all know that I love a good walking tour.  I was happy to get the chance to try the City Walks App thanks to GPSmyCity.  The app is available for iOS or Android for 470 cities worldwide with over 5,000 walks!

The app has a lite version which is free to download but does not include the high resolution map or all of the interesting places to discover and tour. The full download is $4.99 per city which is still a great price considering it is designed to be used offline without internet connection so you won’t have to worry about using data!

Once the city of your choice is downloaded you can choose walks from different categories or customize your own.  I created a custom walk for Birmingham blending the sites from the other walks into one.

Pins are then dropped at all of the walking locations and a walking map is drawn out.  You can change the order of the walk if you would like.  It was very handy to have it drawn out and very easy to follow.

As always, I was distracted by a shiny object here and there across the city but with the map it was easy to get back on course for the next location.
