I recently finished listening to Wild by Cheryl Strayed and I also saw the movie, in fact saw the movie before I listened to the book! I wanted to share my movie and book review.
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
I really enjoyed both t ahe book at the movie. I can’t say that I liked either better. Both are worth the time to watch/read/listen to.
Crystal and I have discussed hiking parts of the Appalachian Trail. Check out my post about the popular Maryland Heights hike on the Appalachian Trail. This book and movie reinforced my desire to hike more of the trail. I can’t see doing anything like that for three months like the author did. I also can’t see doing it ALONE! Crystal and I have discussed doing a couple day hike, and that would be fun! Ok, it would be terribly hard, but if we did short hikes, and didn’t have to carry a MONSTER on our backs, it would be fun.
I love Reese Witherspoon who played Cheryl in the movie.
This is one of my favorite quotes from this book.
