We recently spent the weekend in Helen for a car show but enjoyed all the other things that Helen has to offer as well. Including trying some new restaurants! I have been to Helen many times for rafting but I have never dined along the river. So, for this trip we dined on the river twice. Our first experience was at Cafe International for lunch.
There is a large deck overlooking the river with picnic table style dining. The view is great and it’s entertaining to watch the rafters float down the river. Some more graceful than others. We rafted later in the day and I would not be put into the graceful rafter category. Not by a long shot.
The portions at Cafe International are huge so keep that in mind when ordering. I wish I had known so we could have shared and saved some money. I don’t think any of us finished our food. Not because it wasn’t good, it was just so much of it!
My son ordered the open face prime rib. I don’t think it was what he thought it was going to be!
We shared the basket of tortilla chips and salsa.
I had the Dixie Bar-B-Que platter. I should have taken note of the word platter. It was a huge portion of food. Even I didn’t finish it and that is saying a lot.
I think Rose ordered the French dip sandwich. All in all, the atmosphere of Cafe International is very good and the food is good. Just go hungry or share with your bestie.
After a hot day of car shows and rafting we went to The Troll Tavern which is located directly across the river from Cafe International. The patio was crowded and the rafting was done for the day so there was no entertainment aspect so we dined inside.
I ordered the “chicken salad” salad. It was good. I just wanted there to be more chicken salad. What a whiner I am. Lunch was too big, dinner was too small. I’ll shut up now. Except I won’t.
Rose ordered the Fish N Chips. For the smallest member of the family she ate the largest dinner and loved it. We also shared the nacho fries. Those were awesome.
We went out early in the morning to take a walk around town since our hotel was just one block off the main street. We walked past Hofer’s Bakery & Cafe and smelled the pastries from the street. So we quickened our pace and went back to pack up and head there for breakfast. The lure of pastries is undeniable.
There is a nice patio if you just want to get a pastry and sit outside or you can get pastries to go. Inside there is also a sit down restaurant. We chose that option! This was by far my favorite of the three restaurants. The atmosphere is lovely and the food was fantastic.
Every morning should start this way. I swear I would be a nicer person if it did. The food was so good!
I don’t even remember what we all ordered but we were happy campers with everything. I highly recommend this restaurant! There are so many nice restaurants in Helen that we didn’t get to on this trip. I guess I’ll just have to make a return trip. I mean that’s what any good blogger would do.
