My cats think that I exist to be at their beck and call and half the time I fall for it. I’ve wanted to make cat treats for a long time because my life is truly that exciting. Yesterday I found a recipe on Pinterest that seemed pretty easy so I thought I would give it a go. The process is pretty quick except for cutting the dough into small pieces. That took a little longer than expected but still including cook time it took about 45 minutes.
1 can of tuna ( I used one packed in water)
1 cup of flour
1 cup of cornmeal
1/3 cup of water
I put all of the ingredients into the KitchenAid mixer with the paddle attachment. It took less than a minute for the ingredients to form the dough. I added about one teaspoon of water since it looked a little dry.
Honestly, it was very weird to have a dough with bits of tuna in it. However, I carried on like a good cat lady would. I rolled out the dough to 1/4″ thickness and used a knife to cut it into little pieces.
I put them on a greased cookie sheet and baked them at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
I think they turned out like respectable looking cat treats. I wanted to get ambitious and cut them into little fish shapes but I spared my dignity.
Tiger was fast asleep and missed the first testing of the new treats. Gato followed me around and scarfed down two treats. On the third treat he literally spit it out. My feelings were hurt. I chose to think that the first two treats were so delicious that he needed no more. However, he refused the treats the rest of the night. Whatever. Tiger also snubbed them but they are both royally spoiled so I’m not sure the treats got a fair assessment. Tonight I will try serving them on a proper silver platter. I brought some to the office cat today to see if he would like them, I’ll keep you posted.
