Russell brought some of these home from work a few years ago, and we have now made at least one batch every year around the Holidays. They are addictive and so good.
I stray from the recipe a bit – I know you are shocked. Don’t be. I find recipes (like most rules) are made to be broken!
Instead of Cheeze Its, I often put in Chex Cereal – cause why not? I like the Wheat Chex this best. I used those and Crispix cereal this time around. No idea why I did Crispix?
Be generous when breaking them up, in fact this time around, we could have done better. The smaller pieces are easier to eat! Some years, I have used just regular old pretzels, not hard ones, and it is still yummy.
Add the cereal or whatever you want:
2 cups of oil is A LOT. This year the pretzels didn’t soak it all up, Next year I will do 1.5 cups of oil The pretzels are supposed to soak it all up. Yeah, I know, very healthy! Hey, I use Canola Oil if that helps at all? Mix the oil and the seasonings really well, and pour over the pretzels and toss. Then Bake at 200 for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring well every 15 minutes.
Give these a try the next time you need to bring a snack or appetizer, you won’t be sorry. These would be great for serving during a football game!! I may make some for all of the playoff games! I love Playoff Football – Let’s go Redskins!
