My son read The Alchemist as a summer reading assignment for his high school literature class. He enjoyed the book so I set my goal to read it also since it didn’t look terribly long. I read 19 pages in the early fall and then his teacher assigned more projects for the book so I had to give it back to him. I finally finished the book this month!
I enjoyed the book but I wouldn’t say that I loved it. It was full of deep thoughts and frankly my brain just can’t concentrate on that kind of stuff. However, it definitely has a very positive vibe to it and it’s uplifting.
As part of the assignment my son had to annotate in the book. I thought this would be annoying and distracting to me as I read. I was wrong. Honestly, his notes were by far the best part of the book to me! It was a little sneak peek into his mind and the comments were so funny.
If he has to do this kind of project again, I will certainly read the book just to read the funny notes!

I would also. That would be the best part, to know his thoughts.
