On our recent trip to Las Vegas we decided to finally take a spin – literally – on the High Roller Observation Wheel! We have wanted to do this on our last few trips to Las Vegas but there is never enough time to fit everything in!
The High Roller is located mid-strip near the Flamingo and the LINQ Hotel. We were staying at Mandalay Bay so we took a taxi over to beat the heat. We did this just hours after arriving and I had not taken the time to find out where the Uber pick-up location was at the hotel yet so I chose a taxi. However, we used Uber twice the next day and it was less expensive and the service was better. Literally we didn’t wait for longer than one or two minutes for an Uber.
The ticket counter is inside and nicely air-conditioned. There is a bar so I assume you can take a drink up at any time but I’m not certain. There are happy hours that have a bar in the observation cabin. Check the website for details.
We went mid-day because I wanted to get a good view of Vegas and I didn’t want it to be crowded. We were the only three in our cabin so that was awesome. I believe the cabins hold 30-40 people so they may pack more people in each one when there is a crowd.
Getting into the cabin is kinda fun because it never stops completely. You just kinda step on. There are people there to make sure you are on fine and help if needed. The doors close and it starts to climb!
There is a monitor that shows the progress in elevation and how long you have been on. The highest elevation is 550 feet and our ride was approximately 30 minutes.
I think 30 minutes is enough time to work the nerves out, check out the view and then sit back and relax. I’m glad we went during the day because I noticed a golf course that I never knew was there and it was fun to get a bird’s-eye view of the people at the pool!
It is a peaceful ride even though they do have a recording playing the entire ride. It had a lot of interesting facts about Las Vegas so we found it to be enjoyable.
The tickets for three of us were $60 which included one child ticket. The tickets are probably cheaper online but we went spur of the moment so I didn’t purchase ahead of time.
I completely think that it was worth $60 for the fun experience.
We strolled back down the strip to Mandalay Bay and enjoyed a little bit of Sprinkles ice cream along the way!
