The Minimalism Challenge

Minimalism Challenge

I’m going to count this as 20 items. I’m certain there are more…but look at me not keeping up with the exact count already. I’m counting the hangers as one item.

If I had my way right now I would be living in a tiny home and owning barely anything.  If I took it a step further I would be working from my tiny home, growing my own food and living off the grid as much as possible.

Until I reach that phase of my life I will just prepare for it by discarding what I don’t want or need in life.  Keep in mind I have two kids and one husband living in our home also so I can’t throw out their belongings…I can only throw out mine!

I’ve never required much in life as far as belongings go and I’m certainly not one to buy things that I don’t need (within reason).  For example I don’t usually stroll up and down the Target isles and buy things that weren’t on the list.

I no longer want to own a three-story home with tons of furniture.  I don’t care about decorating and I certainly am not interested in cleaning any of it.

I read about a minimalism challenge online and I was all over it!  The idea behind it is to throw out 1 item on day one, 2 items on day 2 and so on.  It’s a 30 day challenge so by the end 465 items will be thrown out, given away or whatever.  It will be out of my house by whatever means.

I’m never good at following the rules to the T and I don’t stay focused very well so I am collecting and throwing out in bulk.  My goal is 465 items in 30 days from now.  Some days may be 30 items and some days might be 6…I just can’t do it in order.

If you are interested in joining me let me know in the comments below!  I’ll post pictures of all the crap I don’t need in my life anymore.  As of right now I don’t think I will have a problem ridding my life of 465 items.  However, I could be wrong when it actually comes down to it.  At the end I might be scraping gum wrappers out of the corner of my junk drawer and trying to count that as an item.  Time will tell.  So technically I started this challenge this weekend on September 15th.  I’ll report back in 30 days.

For now check out the crap I’ve donated or thrown out.

Kids clothes..seriously these kids are growing like weeds! These are counted in the 20 items listed in the first picture.

Five items that I’ve either grown out of or worn out. Yes…grown out of and not in a good way. It’s more of the I can’t put away the M&M’s way.

I loved this storage box…until I put too much stuff in it and the side exploded.

Look at this random pile. Enfamil is for babies!! This was in my cabinet and I would like to point out that my kids are 16 and 12. Right next to the kid’s medicine is where I stored sparklers because obviously that’s what is normal. Why do I still have sparklers from 10 years ago. I’m sure there aren’t any more sparkles left. The other random pill containers are where I used to put my vitamins. It looks like I’m 97 years old with pills for every hour of the day. That’s not the case. All for vitamins.

The above picture was taken after I went into the cabinet to find one thing.  I also found a random iPhone.  I think it’s an iPhone 3!

So, that is 35 items as of now.  I’ll keep you posted.

You are hilarious!! I am with you all the way on this one! Less is more! I don’t want just”stuff” anymore. Keep what means something to you and let the rest go! Now the question is will you find any hidden cash:? I found $100.00 bill in my old handbag and $200.00 in my filing cabinet. It “pays” to be tidy:)
